- Adventure Extreme Outdoor Adventure Program : Adventure Extreme is an outdoor adventure-based program for middle school students whose families are clients of CASS. The students spend one week during the summer in the outdoors, and receive
follow-up support during the following school year. Activities include backpacking, camping, hiking, rock climbing and rappelling, canoeing and water play, and daily group discussions and reflections. The overall goal of Adventure Extreme is to positively alter the
outlook and behavior of the participants, while they learn to overcome obstacles, and to achieve a sense of personal and team accomplishment. Communication, problem solving, and cooperation are emphasized in ways that can be directly applied to meet everyday
challenges at home, school, and in the community. Each CASS office receives names of recommended participants from their respective middle school’s staff.
- Changing Families Support Group, Thurmont Middle School
- Empty Bowls Banquet, Catoctin High School
- Girls’ Anger Management Group, Catoctin High School: The Catoctin High School Girls’ Anger Management Group is a psycho educational support group for young women attending the high school. This 10-week program provides a forum for open
discussion about anger issues, and teaches anger management skills. Participants are referred to CASS by school staff, and are either young women who are struggling with anger issues or who have learned to manage their anger and would be good role models for the
group.
