Most recently established of the three scholarships awarded annually by the Emmitsburg Lions Club is its scholarship in memory of Dr. Harry Prongas.

 

"Started by The Emmitsburg Lions Club and Elizabeth Prongas, with memorial contributions for Dr. Harry Prongas, this fund provides annual scholarships to graduating seniors from the Emmitsburg area who are continuing their education at the post secondary school of their choice. Dr. Harry Prongas was a Professor of History, Political Science, Government, and Economics at Frederick Community College for thirty years, and a charter member of the Emmitsburg Lions Club."

"Because he devoted his own life to education, my husband was particularly aware and sympathetic to those students who needed economic assistance. He would be honored to know of this annual scholarship for worthy high school graduates, " said Mrs. Prongas.

The Emmitsburg Lions Club Scholarship is an award of $1000 by the Community Foundation of Frederick County and the Emmitsburg Lions Club. Candidates for this scholarship must have first submitted a standard Community Foundation of Frederick County application to the Community Foundation and have followed their procedures for receiving the award from the Emmitsburg Lions Scholarship Committee.
