The Emmitsburg
Lions Club has established an
annual scholarship of $1000 in the memory of charter
member Lion Bob Gauss
to be awarded to a high school senior residing in the
Emmitsburg Elementary School attendance
district and the 21727 zip code.
Bob Gauss was
a long time member of the Emmitsburg community
and belonged to many civic organizations.
Bob's
importance and stature in the eyes of the
community was best summed up by Joan Boyle
when she said :
"Bob has
radiated the basic ideal of Athenian Democracy
when the Athenian became a legal citizen by
pledging ‘We will transmit this city more
beautiful than it was transmitted to us.’
Thank you, Bob, for giving Emmitsburg such a
legacy of making it a more beautiful place in
which to live. Let us cherish your legacy by
continuing its beauty."
