Mr. John Shorb Sr.

John Joseph Shorb Sr., 82, died on October 28, 2007 at home in Thurmont with his family. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Helen Shorb; three daughters, Pat and husband Richard Hausler, Barbara and husband Butch Shilling, all of Thurmont, and Rose and husband Robert Cauthen of Florida; four sons, John Jr. and friend Julie Chiappetta, of Cascade, Larry and wife Jo Ann, of Delaware, Thomas (Eugene) and wife Tammy, of Chambersburg, Pa., and Bryan and wife Nina, of Smithsburg; 12 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Elizabeth Shorb; two sisters, Rose Green and Lottie Helton; and two brothers, Dan and Paul Shorb.

Born April 14, 1925 in Emmittsburg, John served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. For 30 years, he was a truck driver and for 15 years a mechanic at W.F. Delauter & Son of Thurmont. For 15 years he owned his own trucking business. He retired in 1991 and then enjoyed working with wood.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30 and Wednesday, Oct. 31 at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N. in Frederick, where funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1. Foot procession will follow the service to the gravesite at Resthaven. Pallbearers will be Mr. Shorb's grandsons: Richard, Brandan, Dwayne, Wayne, Aaron, Ian, Mike, and Tommy.
