Our annual health screening complete with diagnostic services conducted by the Gettysburg Hospital is always a huge success. Our 29th annual screening event is scheduled for Saturday, March 31th, 2012 from 7:30 - 10:00 a.m. at Mother Seton School, 100 Creamery Road in Emmitsburg, Maryland.  Our health screening will be featuring several low cost hematology services made available once again by the Gettysburg Hospital.  Please note that registration is required for all of these low-cost blood tests by calling WellSpan at 800-840-5905 Monday through Friday from 8 am - 4:30 pm.

Most important of these services and recommended by health care providers on an annual basis is a multiphasic blood screening (MBS). The MBS focuses on early detection of potential health problems and is available for $32 to those health screening participants who have pre-registered and who have completed the mandatory 10-12 hour fast.

In addition to the MBS, the Gettysburg Hospital is offering four optional blood tests as well.  The prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood test is recommended for men over the age of 50 as a preventative measure against prostate cancer. The cost of the PSA blood test is $15. Available to all participants for $10 is the sensitive thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) blood test, a test used in the early detection of thyroid disease. Other optional tests include the Vitamin B12 deficiency test at $20 and the (HbA1c) Glycohemoglobin test made available for confirmed known diabetics for an additional $15. All tests may be ordered in whole or in part of any combination.

In continuing with their tradition of supporting vision health, the Emmitsburg Lions will be conducting vision acuity tests for those interested of ages grade school to adult. No pre-registration is necessary for the adult vision screening.
