Meet John
A. Miller
John
Miller was raised in the small town of Ladiesburg,
Maryland. After marrying his wife
Alicia, they moved to the charming
town of Emmitsburg in April of 1997
where their first son, Marshall was
born.
In
2001, John's family moved to the
small town of Fountain Dale,
Pennsylvania, 5 miles west of
Emmitsburg.
In
2004,
their second child Dalton was born.
John is the Civil War Historian for
the Emmitsburg Historical Society. He
devotes most of his time
researching the Civil War events
that occurred in and around
Emmitsburg. One of his main
responsibilities is working with
other community organizations and
assisting them as much as he can.
Mostly acting as a historical
advisor or promoting Civil War
history by holding lectures. He
is a natural born writer and has
written many articles pertaining to Emmitsburg's Revolutionary & Civil War heritage for the historical
society to be published as part of the the new history
book being produced by the Emmitsburg historical society.
John also commanded a Civil War
re-enacting company called the 22nd Virginia Infantry. He served on many different staffs and also led the
left wing of his battalion onto the field of many
engagements. John and his family enjoy
participating in re-enactments and living histories,
which has taken them as far south as Georgia. He has
volunteered many hours of his time at the Monocacy
National Battlefield, the National Civil War Medicine
Museum, C&O Canal, Antietam as well as other
historical sites in Maryland and Pennsylvania. In his spare time he enjoys collecting high
quality Orioles Baseball Cards, playing the guitar, hunting,
shooting his bow and various firearms, fishing, and
being outdoors, and of course, writing.
