(11/30) Christ’s Community Church will be moving down the road to a more spacious building on Creamery Road.

The church will be relocating to a new building soon to be constructed across from Mother Seton School and Quality Tire and Auto LLC in Emmitsburg, Pastor John Talcott said. The building will be 10,000 square feet. Construction is expected to start in spring 2024.

The church, currently located on West Lincoln Avenue, has long faced issues regarding limited space in their current building, Talcott said. The 6,200-square-foot rental building seats 100 people and occupies a maximum of 120.

"We have renovated several times over the past ten years to take out walls for our worship area and for children’s ministry," Talcott said. "We are looking forward to being able to grow in our ministry and service to the community."

The church, which is of the Assemblies of God denomination, has been operating in the rental building since it opened in 2012.

"We had been given the opportunity to buy the building from [the town]," Talcott said. "And so we couldn’t come to an agreement on the price, and so we began to pray about what to do."

The eight-acre land on Creamery Road was donated to the church soon afterwards in late 2021, Talcott said. The worship area will be 3,680 square feet, "comfortably" seating 200 people, he said.

"We currently have 13 parking spots and so we have to park on the street, at the swimming pool and at the community park parking areas when allowed," Talcott said. He said the new location will have 98 parking spaces.

Talcott said the church’s mission is to "reach out, to connect and equip others to follow Jesus – to become fully devoted followers of Jesus."

Julia Neel, the leader of the women’s ministry, feels that having more space will aid the church in accomplishing its mission.

"There are many areas where we don’t want to be limited by space," Neel said. "I think of community day camp every summer that we have. And that is always to the point where, you know, we hit capacity, and we’d like to even invite more children to come for that." The day camp this past summer consisted of about 80 children as well as, Neel estimates, "40 or so" people on the crew.

"We don’t want to turn away anybody," Talcott said. "And we have very active children’s youth, teen and young adult ministries."

The church also conducts a men’s ministry and the aforementioned women’s ministry. The church’s schedule is filled with activities between the different ministries.

"Sometimes we go to conferences or events at other churches," Neel said about the women’s ministry, "or sometimes we have dinners where we gather and just have time together fellowshipping and enjoying each other’s company – getting to know each other better." The women’s ministry also meets once a week for a Bible study.

Christ’s Community Church is also known for their participation in town events, Talcott said, including some events this season.

The church participated in the Emmitsburg Elementary Fall Festival Nov. 16, where it brought a barrel train for the children to ride. The church also hosted the community ecumenical Thanksgiving service with the Emmitsburg Council of Churches Nov. 19 at the church’s current facility.

On Dec. 4, the church will be holding a Christmas tree lighting ceremony on the steps of the Emmitsburg Library where the children will sing. Afterwards, the worship team will join the festivities at the Carriage House Inn to perform a set of songs. The church will also be holding a stellar-themed Christmas Eve celebration for children on Dec. 24 at 6 p.m., followed by a birthday party for Jesus.
