Town Manager's Report
February 2008

Streets:

• Staff  plowed snow and treated street

• Staff has repaired a number of street lights

• Staff made some cold patch street repairs

Water:

• Rainbow Lake is now flowing over the spill way

• The roughing filters are now being backwashed twice per day and the DE filters are being done once per week

• Staff has recently rebuilt (re-socked) one of the DE filters

  Water production and consumption.  We produced and purchased an average of 360,183 gpd.  We consumed an average of 313,269 gpd (up 39,201 gpd or 156 taps over November 2007)  

  • The difference is "Backwash Water" ...(13.0%).   We purchased 301,000 gals. of water from MSM this month.

  • 56.9%      of this water came from wells 

  •  2.9%      of this water came from Mt. St. Mary's

  • 40.2%      of this water came from Rainbow Lake 

Wastewater:

• Staff started up the overland flow treatment system

• We received about 3.8 inches of precipitation this month (the average is 3.0 inches)

  • We have a deficit of 2.0" of  precipitation over the last six months.  The average precipitation for the period from Sept 1 thru February 29 is 21.5" and we have received 19.5" for that period. 

• Wastewater Treatment:

  • We treated an average of 786,000 gpd (consumed 313,269 gpd) which means that 60.1% of the wastewater treated this month was "wild water".   

  • We experienced no spills of untreated sewerage during the month of February

  • We exceed the plant's design capacity on 8 days during the month of February

  • 02-12   1,933,000 gpd,    02-14   894,000 gpd         02-15  833,000 gpd

  • 02-26  1,220,000 gpd    02-27  852,000 gpd   

Trash: 

• Trash pickup will remain Monday and Thursday for the Month of March, 2008

Parks:

• Staff made all standard checks and emptied trash cans

• Staff completed the reconfiguration of the parking lot at the Babe Ruth baseball field in Community Park

Meetings Attended:

• 02/14 met with property owner related to proposed sanitary sewer R/W

• 02/18 met with Up-County Family Support Center staff and the Mayor to discuss the future of their program

• 02/20 meeting of the Frederick County Chapter of MML to discuss and consider the County tax sharing program

• 02/21 meeting with Fox & Associates (Engineers) to review the Lincoln Ave. water & sewer rehab project

• 02/21 meeting between the Frederick County BOCC and the municipalities to discuss and agree on the Frederick County Tax Sharing program for FY2009

• 02/22 meeting with Frederick County Commissioners in support of the U-County Family Support Center

• 02/26 meeting with staff to develop a projected budget for possible future water & sanitary sewer rehab projects and their related MDE grant and loan requests

• 02/27 meeting of the Emergency Management Task Force

• 02/28 meeting with possible renter of the house located at 140 South Seton Ave.
