Health Rules:

1. All animals must have an official ear tag or an official legible breed registration
tattoo.
2. No cattle showing clinical signs of contagious or infectious disease, including
active ringworm, warts, lice and mange, will be admitted to any show.
3. Official Health Certificate, AAI-13 or equivalent, must accompany all cattle for
show or sale. A health chart is valid for the entire show season beginning April 1
and ending with the Pennsylvania Farm Show.
4. Interstate animals exhibited at a Pennsylvania show or fair must meet Pennsylvania
requirements, and must be accompanied by the Interstate Health Certificate to be
eligible for entry. A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued within
30 days prior to the opening date of the Fair is required. A current rabies
vaccination administered by a licensed veterinarian is required for animals 3 months of
age or older. The rabies information may be included on the CVI or a rabies vaccination
certificate is acceptable. Must be tested for tuberculosis and brucellosis after April 1.
5. Entries deadline August 1 to department chairperson. The Dairy Entry Form can be
found at the back of the Premium Book or on the Premium Book page on the web site
at www.southmountainfair.com and must be returned to the Dept. 2 chairperson.
6. No market animal may be dual entered as a breeding animal for any species.Vaccination Requirement:
1. All cattle must be accompanied by a health certificate, signed by an accredited
veterinarian, which includes
a statement that the animal(s) identified have been immunized against IBR, P13, and BVD.
2. Substitution may be made within one herd unit. All animals must be tested and
housed under one farm unit.
3. Animals that have never been vaccinated against BVD or have not been vaccinated against
BVD during the previous 12 mmoths, must receive one dose of modified live virus vaccine
given at least 15 days and not more than 180 days before the show, or two doses of killed
vaccine, two to four weeks apart, with the last dose given at least 15 days and not
more than 180 days before the show.
4. Animals that have been vacinated against BVD within the previous 12 months, must receive
at least a single injection of modified live virus or killed vaccine given not less than
15 days and not more than 180 days before the show.
5. Hyperimmune serum may not be used as a substitute for the above vaccination requirement.
6. The date of the last live virus vaccination, or the dates of the last two killed virus
vaccinations must be recorded on the Health Certificate.
7. No animals will be admitted to the show or fair unless these requirements have been met.
