May/June Newsletter Items

  • Congregational Meeting: On May 4th the Council presented a request to purchase items to improve the water quality at the church. The water was analyzed and it was recommended that a water softener and filter be purchased to remove iron, minerals and sediment. In addition a UV light would remove any bacteria. A motion was approved to purchase the three items not to exceed a cost of $3,400. Once the new system is installed the use of the chlorinator can be discontinued.

  • The roof at the Sunday School entrance has been repaired. It was noted that the existing roof may need to be replace in 2-3 years.

  • Work is complete on the Sunday School bathrooms and there have been many compliments. The facilities’ are now handicap accessible and new storage space is available. Thank you to everyone who made donations to this project.

  • April was the last month for Pat Staley to serve as sexton. We want to thank her for her service to Keysville Lutheran Church. The new sexton beginning in May will be Teresa Storey. She will report to the Property Committee.

  • The next council meeting is scheduled for July 17th at 7:15PM.

  • Picnic in the Park is on SUNDAY AUGUST 17TH. The annual event hosted by the Key Women will be held at Mt Tabor Park in Rocky Ridge. Worship service will be held at 11AM with the meal to begin at noon. Fried chicken will be provided and families are asked to bring a covered dish to share. Remember to bring your own drinks and plates and utensils. Cake donations are appreciated for the Cake Walk.

  • The date of the Annual Yard Sale is Saturday October 4th.  We are already collect good usable items.  Room 7 in the lower Sunday School area is being used at this time and more space will be available after Vacation Bible School in June.  Sellable items are an important part of this fund raiser.

  • Congratulations to:

    Kurtis Scheller joined the U.S. Army this spring and is currently in basic training at Ft. Benning, Georgia. If anyone would like to send him a letter, there are labels on the church bulletin board. Please be sure to outline his address and your return address in green marker or a highlighter; this is how they sort the mail faster for each of the battalions. (Please remember if you do not highlight Kurtis’ address in green, he will be punished and required to do push ups.) 

    The following congregation members will be graduating from Francis Scott Key High School on June 7th at McDaniel College:

    -Robert “Bobby” Bowers IV will also graduate from Carroll County Career Tech Center on May 29th from the welding class. Bobby will be working at Evapco in Taneytown.

    -Marjorie Haines will be attending Dickenson College in Carlisle, PA.

    -Brian Haines will be attending WyoTech in Blairsville, PA. He too will graduate from Carroll County Career Tech Center on May 29th from the welding class. 

    -Heather Knight will be staying in the area following graduation. 

    -Derek V. Lease will be attending Morrisville State College in New York for agricultural studies.

    Allison Scheller graduated from St. Mary’s College of Maryland on May 10th with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a Minor in Religious Studies. She will then be attending St. Mary’s MAT program (Master of Arts in Teaching) for Secondary Education in July. Allison is pictured with her grandparents, Fred and Betty Scheller, on graduation day.

    Sara Storey graduated from York College on May 17th with a degree in Nursing. She will be working at Johns Hopkins in the neonatal unit. 

    Lori (Peters) Wright graduated from Bladen County Community College in North Carolina with an Associates Degree in Nursing, being pinned as a Registered Nurse.

    Annie Zollers graduated on May 17th from Hood College.

    Travis Sanders graduated on May 11th with his Masters from Mount Saint Mary’s University. 

    Nicole Roop was hooded for her doctorate in education on May 16th from The George Washington University. She completed her degree in August 2007 and currently works at the University of Maryland, College Park as Associate Director for the Aerospace Engineering department. In early May, Nicole received the department’s inaugural Outstanding Staff Award voted on by the students.
