News in Brief
4-H Therapeutic Riding Program Receives Grant
Through the support of a grant from The Community Foundation of Frederick County, The Frederick County 4H Therapeutic Riding Program has been able to
upgrade its much-used equipment.
The riding program purchased two new adult saddles and two new children’s saddles, both cwith stirrups and leathers, as well as five new ASTM
approved riding helmets for children.
Frederick County 4H Therapeutic Riding provides riders with safety helmets to defray the costs for participants and their families.
Recently, the 4-H Therapeutic Riding Program has seen an increase of young children requesting services. Approximately 30% of the participants are
riders under the age of 8.
Therapeutic Riding provides education, socialization, recreation and therapy to 72 students each spring and fall at no charge to the participants.
The program, a 501c3 non-profit organization, now in its 24th year of service to Frederick County citizens, serves those with emotional, physical or mental disabilities.
Students ride one hour per week for seven weeks during each session. Class instructors and occupational and/or physical therapists design specific
programs for each student, direct the implementation of these programs and monitor the progress of the students.
