Mount St. Mary’s University to Dedicate New Waldron Family Stadium
Mount St. Mary’s University will dedicate a new $3.5 million Waldron Family Stadium on Thursday, August 23. The dedication ceremony begins at 3:15
p.m. at the Stadium and will be followed by a brief skills demonstration by the Mount’s soccer and lacrosse teams. Tours of the facility will be available after the skills
demonstration. The men’s soccer team will then face Temple in a scrimmage beginning at 5:00 p.m. The day’s events are part of the university’s bicentennial celebrations.
The 1,000-seat facility is named the Waldron Family Stadium, in honor of Trustee Emeritus Eugene Waldron, C’64, and his family; while the all-purpose
lacrosse and soccer field will be named the Lawrence E. Horning, Sr. Field, in honor of deceased alum Larry Horning, C’56. In addition, the Walsh Team Center, named in
honor of Mount alumnus John Walsh, C’58 will be unveiled as well.
"The Mount has a strong tradition in Division I lacrosse and soccer," says Mount President Thomas H. Powell. "We are looking forward to many exciting
matches at the Waldron Family Stadium, the newest state-of-the-art facility at a Maryland college." The complex includes all-weather synthetic "field turf," restrooms and concession
stand, press box and parking. The Walsh Team Center includes coaches’ offices, locker rooms for the Mount’s men’s and women’s lacrosse and soccer teams, two visitor’s locker rooms
and training facilities.
The women’s lacrosse team advanced to the NCAA tournament in both 2004 and 2005, while the men’s lacrosse team earned the school’s first-ever bid to
the NCAA lacrosse tournament in 2003. The men’s soccer team has recorded more than 300 victories since its inaugural season in 1953, while the women’s team is in its 16th year this
season.
The Mount men’s soccer team opens its 2007 home schedule when Howard visits Waldron Family Stadium on September 5 at 4:00 p.m.
