Amber Hill Physical Therapy Opens

Cutting the "ribbon" (a therapeutic band) to open the new AmberHill Physical Therapy clinic in Thurmont is (L-R), operations and marketing director Rosina Novak, Thurmont Commissioner Bill Blakeslee, Thurmont Main Street Manager Vicki Grinder, owner and operator of Amber Hill Donald J. Novak, P.T., office administrator Kelly Mihalic, Thurmont Economic Development Council Vice President John Kinnaird, and Michael Johnston, P.T., M.S.

Amber Hill Physical Therapy, one of the area’s oldest and most respected practices, will soon expand to offer services in Thurmont. The clinic, which is located at 120 Frederick Rd., Suite D, is Amber Hill’s fourth clinic in western Maryland.

"Our practice has grown because we make the needs of our patients our number one priority," said Donald J. Novak, P.T, owner and operator. "We felt it was important to offer services to meet the needs of the growing population in the Thurmont area. Northern Frederick County has both an aging population and an influx of families with young children, so convenience is important."

Mr. Novak, who was appointed to the State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners last year by Governor Robert Ehrlich, began practicing in Frederick in 1989, and has since opened offices in Damascus and Jefferson.

Amber Hills’ experienced therapists treat a wide range of orthopedic, sports, Worker’s Compensation and automobile injuries, as well as neurological, women’s health and wellness issues. Amber Hill specializes in certified hand therapy and children’s pediatric programs which include both physical and occupational therapy services. All clinics also offer private treatment rooms, and new patients are usually seen within 24 hours.

"One of the attributes that distinguishes Amber Hill from other physical therapy clinics is that we offer programs that help people to take charge of their health," explained Mr. Novak. "We teach patients at-home exercises and proper body mechanics for performing daily tasks, whether laundry, cleaning, yard work, lifting or sitting at a computer. Our goal is a total program that helps patients participate in their recovery while they’re at Amber Hill Physical Therapy — and helps them maintain their health into the future," he added.

The Thurmont clinic will be open Mondays and Wednesdays from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m., Fridays from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The number for the Thurmont clinic is 301-271-9230, or visit www.amberhillpt.com.

New Horse Farm Opens

Justa Dream Farm is the childhood dream of Brenda Iacarrino of Thurmont. All her life she has loved horses and dreamed of having her own stable. Brenda’s dream came true when she and her husband Tom decided to buy a local farm and open Justa Dream Farm at 103 Eyler Road in Thurmont.

Justa Dream Farm offers horse boarding and leasing and lesson. English and Western horseback riding lessons are offered for ages 5 through adult and are instructed by Debbie Reisse. Debbie is a professional, competitive Dressage rider with 30 years of riding experience and 8 years of teaching experience. "Our lessons are offered in a friendly, pleasant atmosphere. Lessons focus on safety and the total care of a horse — from tacking and grooming through riding," says Brenda. Group lessons include no more than three students per class.

Justa Dream Farm is the home of two foals that are the offspring of a World Championship AQHA Superior Halter horse. For more information, or to register for riding lessons, call Brenda Iacarrino at 240-446-6505.
