Thurmont Ambulance Holds Annual Banquet

Thurmont Community Ambulance Service recently held its annual banquet at the Thurmont American Legion Post 168. The officers were installed, life membership was awarded, and members were recognized for their responses and service to the company.

The 2006 officers are President Jason West, Vice President Joseph Wehage, Secretary Bobbie Jo Gift, Assistant Secretary Josh Wiles, Treasurer Judith White, Assistant Treasurer Joy Burrier and Directors Randy Waesche, David Riffle and Jason Schultz. Operations officers are Chief Brian Shriner, Assistant Chief James Humerick, Lieutenants Dennis "DJ" Ott and James Kilby and Sergeant Josh Wiles.

The installation of officers was administered by Maryland State Firemen’s Association President Lee Sachs. Randy Waesche served as master of ceremonies and the invocation was given by Rev. Ruth Ann Ward of Weller United Methodist Church.

Life membership was awarded to Joseph Wehage for 20 years of service. The President’s Award was given to James Kilby and the Chief’s Award went to Jason Schultz. A special recognition plaque was given to Randy Waesche for his many years of service as dispatcher and Director of Emergency Communications.

The top ten responders were recognized and presented with an embroidered job shirt. Those honored were: Brian Shriner, 173 calls, David Riffle, 159, Marie Conte, 143, Joe Wehage, 138, Jim Humerick, 108, Joe Muller, 106, Jim Kilby, 85, Dennis Ott, Jr., 81, Jason Schultz, 79 and Bobbie Jo Gift 74 calls.

The next major event for the ambulance company is a shrimp feed to be held at the carnival grounds on Saturday, March 25, 2006. Members will be selling tickets for the event. The proceeds are for the purchase of an ambulance.
