Thurmont Lions Club
Recognizes Member for 50 Years of Service
Vic Jagow of Thurmont was honored
recently at a Thurmont Lions Club for his 50 years of service
to the organization.
A very active member of the club, Vic
has held numerous offices, including serving as director many
times, president from 1963-64 and secretary for 18 years. He
also served in many District level positions including Zone
chair, District newsletter editor, and member of the board for
the Lions Vision Research Foundation. He is a Roaring Lions
graduate and a recipient of many awards including the 100%
Secretary, 100% Bulletin Editor, numerous special District
awards and the Club Leadership Award. He is also a recipient
of the International President’s Certificate of Appreciation
and the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellow in 1991.
In honor of his many accomplishments
and service to the club, he was presented with a Life
Membership award in October 1999.
In addition to Vic’s Lion
achievements, he has served many other community organizations
including the town of Thurmont’s 250th Anniversary Committee,
is a certified Literacy Council tutor, serves as a board
member for the Thurmont Branch Library, the Catoctin Medical
Center and is active on many town commissions and committees,
including his former employer Moore Business Forms.
In honor of Vic’s 50 years, the board
of the Thurmont Lions Club has designated the Victor Jagow
Scholarship. The $1,000, four-year, renewable scholarship is
open to traditional and nontraditional students. The Thurmont
Lions Club is currently developing the specifics of the
scholarship.

• Mike Fratina of Thurmont is the
winner of the four-some golf package given by Sabillasville
school’s PTA recently. A raffle for the golf package was held
at the Sabillasville Community Fair.
• Edna Blakeslee of Thurmont won the
quilt in the annual Thurmont Senior Center raffle. Edna is
shown here with the quilt made by Pauline Duble. Second prize
($100) was won by Jill Hooper and third prize ($50) was
awarded to Barbara Roderick.
• Members of Well-Fit Aerobic and
Fitness Center participated in the 2006 Thanksgiving Day
Turkey Trot in Frederick. Braving the cool and damp weather
was Gus Biser, Jenny Freeze, Mary Trapane, Lisa Sweeney,
Richard Trapane and Heidi Horine.
• Mr. & Mrs. Al Moya (the former Lisa
Fraley of Thurmont) of Bay City, Texas announce the birth of
their daughter, Megan Lindsey on August 28, 2006. Grandparents
are Mr. & Mrs. James Fraley of Clearville, PA (formerly of
Thurmont). Great Grandmother is Mrs. Ruth Fraley of Moser
Manor, Thurmont. Lisa is principal at McAlister Middle School
in Bay City and Al is with the US Postal Service in Bay City.
