Structural Systems Employees Earn Certification

John Buffett and Doug Ogden have become the third and fourth Professional Engineers at Structural Systems, Inc.

SSI is a building components manufacturer and distributor with offices in Thurmont, Frederick, and Elkton, Maryland and Culpeper, Virginia. Buffett, an SSI employee since 2001, graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was employed as a project manager with Craftmark Homes prior to joining SSI.

Ogden, an SSI employee since 2000, graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He was employed as an estimator with NVR, Inc. prior to joining SSI.

The Professional Engineering (PE) exam is an 8-hour comprehensive test covering a range of subjects in which examinees must demonstrate superior knowledge based on academics and work experience. Buffett and Ogden both took the PE exam in April 2006.

SSI’s Engineering Department works closely with architects, builders, and developers to design the highest-quality structural components in the industry, and also assists with repairs and certification of "as-built" conditions. The professional designation of John Buffett and Doug Ogden further enhances SSI’s ability to provide complete engineering packages for residential and light commercial buildings.

The proceeds from the club’s annual Birthday Calendar sale are used to defray the scholarship awards. The were presented to the students by club scholarship committee chair Susan Love and club president Sam Miller.

The students selected for this year’s scholarships were Zach Olsen who will attend Malone College in Canton, Ohio; Ashley Favorite who will study at Frederick Community College; and Anna Lynch who is enrolled at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland.

Members Select Favorite as Lion of the Year

In other club news, the incoming president, Susan Favorite, was selected as the Lion of the Year by her members and fellow officers. It has been the recent custom of the club to honor one of its members who have exemplified the principles of being a good member and has achieved high standards of leadership in carrying out her responsibilities. Shown here presenting a plaque to the honoree is outgoing president Sam Miller.
