Volunteer Fire Company Helping Fellow Fightfighters

The Vigilant Hose Company has begun a campaign to help fellow fire departments destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

Like many homes and business in the Louisiana area, numerous fire departments were completely destroyed. In a time of disaster such as being faced by the residents, the first organization they look to for help is the fire and rescue service. The Vigilant Hose Company wants to help bring these services back on-line for the people affected by this disaster.  The idea to “adopt a fire company”

came from Vigilant Hose Co. member Jane Stoner. Jane works at the National Fire Academy and was hearing first-hand about the devastation along the gulf coast. “If it was us, we would want someone to help us get back on our feet so I decided to see how we could help,” she said.

Special collection sites during the month of September for the Hurricane Relief Fund have been established throughout the Emmistburg area. During the weekends from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Jubilee Foods in Emmitsburg will be the site for special collection efforts by our members. Checks can be made payable to Vigilant Hose Company Relief Fund.

“The Vigilant Hose Company appreciates your support in the wake of this disaster and yous hould feel confident that 100% of the funds collected will be distributed to a fire department hit by this disaster,” said Vigilant Hose Co. member Doug Orner. Additional information can be found at the fire station. The relief fund drive will continue at least through the end of September.
