Breezy Hill Welcomes Community to New Thurmont Location for Fall Fun Day

Savannah and Julianna Notto (above, L-R) of Gettysburg enjoy a horseback ride in the indoor arena at Breezy Hill’s Family Fun Day on September 10, 2005.

Breezy Hill Stables recently held a Fall Fun Day in celebration of the grand opening of their new stable in Thurmont. Formerly located on Keysville Road in Emmitsburg, the stable relocated to 15117 Mud College Road in Thurmont where it now features an indoor riding ring and 22 stalls on 53 acres of land.

The Fall Fun Day is one of two annual events that Breezy Hill hosts in order to introduce people to farm life and horsemanship. The free event was open to the community and featured horse and pony rides, a moonbounce, a pretend “cow-milking” station, hay wagon rides, food, drinks, snow cones, and more.

“Twice a year we like to have people come to the farm to enjoy these activities – especially those who can’t afford to or don’t have the opportunity to,” shared Breezy Hill Stables owner Joe Topper.

Two year old Robert Albaugh (right) of Rocky Ridge “milks a cow” at the Family Fun Day. Helping him master the task is his aunt, Bonny Hurley. The pretend cow miking station was a big hit with kids of all ages.

Breezy Hill Stables offers boarding, lessons, a summer day camp program, as well as horse training, leasing and sales. The stable is also home to Life Horse, Inc, a program dedicated to providing interaction between horses and people with emotional and physical illnesses. According to Julie McCutcheon of Breezy Hill, Life Horse is a nonprofit organization that has touched the lives of many people including youth dealing with life’s challenges, children suffering from chronically and terminally ill diseases, and area churches. The stable even makes many of their family fun day activities (such as the moonbounce and the milking station) available to area churches for their activities and fundraisers.
