Tim Gregory, director of Nada Brahma Productions, demonstrates the ancient Australian Aboriginal Didgeridoo to Thurmont Elementary School students
|
Thurmont Primary and Elementary school students spent their morning last week listening to rhythms and sounds from around the world courtesy of the school’s PTA and Nada Brahma Productions.
Tim Gregory, director of Nada Brahma Productions, works as a cultural ambassador to build respect and create peace in today’s rapidly changing world. A Maryland native, he travels the world and shares his explorations and his love for music and dance with
school audiences around the country.
The lively performance introduced instruments, music, rhythms and sounds from continents around the world. The students were especially impressed by the Australian Aboriginal Didgeridoo , a 3 foot long, hollow tree limb or trunk that makes an impressive,
resonating sound. The wind instrument was often used to accompany chants and songs.
The interactive program gave students the opportunity to experience a variety of musical styles and instruments from the Caribbean, Andes Mountains, Central & Southeast Asia, Australian Outback, Sub-Saharan Africa, Middle East, and North America.
This cultural arts assembly program was held at both schools and was made possible by funding from the Thurmont Elementary Primary PTA and a grant for $500 from the Frederick Arts Council.
