Community Show Thanks

The sponsoring organizations consisting of the Thurmont Grange, Catoctin FFA and Catoctin FFA Alumni would like to thank those individuals who helped with the 49th annual Thurmont and Emmitsburg Community Show. We would especially like to thank the community businesses for advertising and sponsoring our show booklet.

Special thanks to the approximately 30 community organizations who participated in the opening flag ceremony and in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Emmitsburg Little League and the 50th anniversary of the Thurmont Elementary School PTA, all of whom were recognized for their service to the community at Friday night’s program.

Congratulations to Annie Delauter, daughter of Tina and Randy Delauter of Sabillasville for being named the 2005-2006 Catoctin FFA Ambassador and for her assistance throughout the Community Show weekend. Dr. Linda Burgee, Superintendent of Schools for Frederick County, announced our Catoctin FFA Ambassador and County Commissioners John W. Thompson, Jr., Mike Cady, John Lovell and Jan Gardner were also present during our Friday evening program.

Special thanks to the Catoctin High School Band who performed during our show on Saturday night and the Catoctin Promise Band who performed on Sunday, both of which were well attended by family and friends of the community. Special thanks to the many individuals who helped with the petting zoo, Barnyard Olympics, pony rides, children identification program, horseshoe pitching, log sawing and martial arts programs; the Thurmont Grange Turkey & Ham Dinner; the Catoctin FFA Alumni Bar-B-Que and the Beef, Sheep and Swine show and sale. Special thanks to Jessica Valentine, who chaired the petting zoo and for the grab bags and pony rides, receipts of which were donated to the Hurricane Katrina victims.

We would also like to thank the 700 exhibitors who entered over 2,800 exhibits and to our department superintendents and helpers who assisted with entering and judging exhibits. Special thanks to our exhibitors in the baked products department.

Maxine Troxell’s banana cake was purchased by Trudy and Austin Garver of Keyser-Garver Well Drilling of Yellow Springs, for a record price of$1,200.00.

Special thanks to John Kinnaird, who provided historical pictures of Thurmont; the Thurmont Library for sponsoring their annual book sale; and to the many other commercial displays that make our event community-oriented.

Special recognition also goes to Jubilee Foods of Emmitsburg for promoting our show booklets and for supporting the 4-H and FFA Beef, Sheep & Swine Sale. Special thanks to Cozy Restaurant for sponsoring a free meal ticket to all department champions at our community show. We would also like to thank all of the individuals, businesses and families for purchasing trophies, for purchasing baked goods at our cake sale and for supporting our livestock show and sale.

We are especially grateful to the Frederick News Post, The Gazette Newspaper, The Catoctin Banner, Thurmont Times Monthly and the Emmitsburg and Thurmont Dispatch for their excellent press coverage of our 49th annual Thurmont & Emmitsburg Community Show.

The Thurmont and Emmitsburg Community Show is an agricultural and educational event. It is through the dedication and hard work of many citizens who volunteer of their time, that make the show a success; one that the Catoctin High School area can be proud of.
