Bechtel, working with the National Architecture, Construction and Engineering (ACE) Mentoring organization and Frederick County Public Schools, has kicked off the first session of its new Frederick Chapter of ACE—Career Directions for Students in
Architecture, Construction and Engineering.
More than 45 local junior and senior high school students, representing every high school in the county, applied for admission to the hands-on Frederick program, which consists of 15 after-school sessions. Each session will focus on different concept, such
as planning and designing, culminating in May with a final project and presentation to parents, teachers, peers, and mentors. Students will form two teams and work with Bechtel volunteers at these sessions, who will explain the professional skills they use in executing projects.
Catoctin High School juniors Jonathan DeRoner and Leanna Staudenmier and senior Bryan Troust were selected to participate in this hands-on mentoring program.
The ACE Mentor Program was founded by the principals of leading design and construction firms, to introduce high school students to career opportunities in the industry. The ACE Mentor Program serves high school youth who are exploring careers in
Architecture, Construction, or Engineering. The mentors are professionals from leading design and construction firms who volunteer their time and energy. The program is designed to engage, inform, and challenge youth.

Yes the young man on the left is Jonathan DeRoner a junior at Catoctin. We can not identify the other boy.
From left to right the young women are: Shizue Haffeman-Udagawa a junior at Urbana and Mary Ann Saunders also a junior at Urbana.
By the way one of the participant’s from Catoctin name was spelled wrong: Leanna Staudenmier (we had it as Leanne).
Sorry we could not provide all four names.
