Andrew Horner  - Frederick Welty

ANDREW ANNAN HORNER, banker, of Emmitsburg, Md., was born in Emmitsburg, Frederick County, Md., March 20, 1881. Andrew Annan Horner attended the public schools and the High School of Emmitsburg, and completed his education by a course in banking in Eastman’s Business College at Poughkeepsie, N. Y., graduating from that institution in 1899. In 1902, after spending two years in the service of the United States government in Washington, D. C., Mr. Horner returned to Emmitsburg, Md., and succeeded to his father’s interest in the firm of Annan, Horner & Company, bankers. 

Mr. Horner is a Republican. He is a charter member of the Masonic Order in Emmitsburg, and belongs to the Sons of Veterans. He is a member of the Presbyterian Church in which he holds the office of trustee.  Mr. Horner was married to Miss Helen Bruce Morrison, March 8, 1909, who is a daughter of William and Helen (Agnew) Morrison, of Emmitsburg, Md.

FREDERICK A. WELTY, owner of "Penola farm," Emmitsburg District, Frederick County. Md., son of Andrew and Rebecca (Black) Welty, was born in Emmitsburg, November 17, 1849. Frederick A. Welty received his education in the parochial schools of his native town. When he was sixteen he left home for Richmond, Va., and afterwards traveled through the Carolinas. In Petersburg. Va., Mr. Welty learned carpentry and became a contractor, doing business in Richmond and many parts of the South. In 1893 he returned to Frederick County, Md., and purchased Penola Farm. Mr. Welty has greatly improved his property, and has built a new house, a barn and outbuildings. He has been a Democrat all his life, but does not adhere strictly to party lines, sometimes voting the Independent ticket.

Frederick A. Welty was married, in Emmitsburg, in 1887, to Catherine, daughter of the late Edward Mclntire. of Emmitsburg. They have three children living: 1, Joseph Frederick; 2, Anna Valerie; 3, Mary Frances. Mr. Welty is a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Emmitsburg. Md.
