 Kathleen R. Northrup Wivell

Mrs. Kathleen R. Wivell, 74, of Emmitsburg, died Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at York Hospital, Pa. She was the wife for 21 years of Joseph D. Wivell Sr.

Born June 20, 1935, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late John Edward and Susie Day Mulcahey.

She worked at Mount St. Mary's University for 29 years and retired June 16, 1999. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed spending time with her family and her dog, Buffy. She was a member of St. Anthony Shrine, Emmitsburg.

Surviving in addition to her husband are children, Mary Wolfe and husband, Ronald, of Smithsburg, Ed Northrup and wife, Linda, of Rocky Ridge, Daniel Northrup of Frederick, Samuel Northrup of Martinsburg, W.Va., Joe Wivell Jr. and wife, Cindy, of Emmitsburg, Mike Wivell and wife, Karen, of Taneytown, Cathy Yoder and husband, Wayne, of Gettysburg, Phil Wivell and wife, Shelly, of Emmitsburg, and Terry Wivell and wife, Rachel, of Fairfield, Pa.; one brother, James Mulcahey of Silver Spring; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward L. Northrup Sr.; and brothers and sisters, Bill Banks, Michael Mulcahey, Daniel Mulcahey, Pat James, Anna Olson, Jackie Kimmel and John Mulcahey.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday, April 26, at St. Anthony Shrine, 16150 St. Anthony Road, Emmitsburg. Father Mike Kuhn will officiate. Interment will follow in Emmitsburg Memorial Cemetery, Emmitsburg.
