Mr. Lewis S. Grandstaff Sr.

Lewis S. Grandstaff Sr., 78, of Emmitsburg, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2009, at home. He was the husband of Sally Grandstaff. They were married for 51 years.

Born Dec. 20, 1930, he was the son of the late Stanley and Anna Grandstaff.

Lewis served in the U.S. Marines from 1950 to 1952. He was an engineer and worked for various companies throughout his career that had taken him around the world. He enjoyed gardening and fixing up a Civil War-era house.

In addition to his loving wife, Sally, he is survived by five children, Elisabeth Scully and husband, John, of Fairfax, Va., Valerie Friday and husband, Kevin, of New Market, Julie Wohlfarth and husband, John, of Frederick, Lewis S. Grandstaff II of Emmitsburg and Sharyl Grandstaff of Springfield, Va.; 10 grandchildren, Connor, Joe, Libby, Trisha, Sean, Matthew, Michael, Lewis, DJ and James; a brother, Allan Grandstaff; a sister, Betty Jane Edwards; nieces, Becky and Mary Liz; nephews, Billy and Todd; and a special family friend, Brad Greenway. Like all rivers flowing to the seas, he is finally heading home.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 20, at the Emmitsburg Memorial Cemetery.
