Mr. John Ridenour Jr.

Mr. John Roscoe Ridenour Jr., 78, of S. Seton Ave., Emmitsburg, Md., died Thursday, October 5, 2006, at St. Catherine's Nursing Center, Emmitsburg, Md.

Born April 6, 1928, in Frederick County, he was a son of the late John R. and Mary Myers Ridenour Sr.

He was predeceased by his wife, Bernadette Marie Wills Ridenour on February 4, 1994.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Emmitsburg, Md. Mr. Ridenour retired from Mount St. Mary's University as a cook after 35 years of service. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 6658, Emmitsburg, Md. and a member of American Legion Francis X. Elder Post 121, Emmitsburg.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are seven children, Lanny Robert Ridenour of Gettysburg, Pa., Rodney Ross Ridenour of Emmitsburg, Md., Laura Anne Crawford of Gettysburg, Pa., Larry Francis Ridenour of Emmitsburg, Md., John David Ridenour of Emmitsburg, Md., Blaine Edward Ridenour of Emmitsburg, Md. and Dorothy Marie Moser of Carroll Valley, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Sweeney of Emmitsburg, Md.

He was predeceased by four brothers and sisters, Leo Ridenour, Anna Cool, Dorothy Wills and Gertrude Powell.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 9, from St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Emmitsburg, Md., with his pastor Rev. Vincent J O'Malley, C.M. as the celebrant. Interment will be in New St. John's Cemetery, Emmitsburg.
