Adams County Outdoor Expo

(2/15) If you are an avid sportsman or sportswoman, enjoy the outdoors, or are just starting a hobby involving hunting or fishing, have we got something for you! The Watershed Alliance of Adams County and Adams County Trout Unlimited have joined forces to sponsor the Adams County Outdoor Expo.

2008 is the fourth year for our event, and so far it has been well received by those who have visited. The Expo is held to bring outdoor enthusiasm, education and awareness to the community. It is a wonderful opportunity for visitors to learn about what the great outdoors has to offer, and to purchase the latest in gear to help you get that trophy trout or big buck to hang on your wall. Vendors will be offering a variety of quality hunting, fishing and outdoor merchandise.

The 4th Annual Adams County Outdoor Expo will be held on March 1 & 2, 2008 at the Buchanan Valley Fire Company. The fire company is located on Route 234, approximately 2 miles off of Route 30 between Gettysburg and Chambersburg. Hours for the event are: Saturday 9am to 5pm; and Sunday 9am to 3pm. Admission is $3 for adults while children under 12 are admitted free. Plenty of free parking is available. Door prizes will be awarded both days and raffle tickets will be sold for the chance to win one of several donated items. Prize winners will be drawn at the close of the event on Sunday, winners do not need to be present to win. A variety of tasty food will be available all weekend with the proceeds benefiting the fire company.

This year we are lucky to have Tom Brtalik of Tom's Flyfishing Service with us. Tom is a FFF Certified Fly Casting Instructor. Tom will be with us on Saturday ONLY, and will be presenting "Fly Casting: Fixing Problems & Improving Your Skills". Be sure to come armed with any questions you may have. Free seminars and demonstrations will take place throughout the weekend. At press time, we are still scheduling seminars, so be sure to check out our website (www.adamswatersheds.org) for updated information and times.

Proceeds from the Expo will enable the Watershed Alliance and Trout Unlimited to continue their work in preserving the water quality of Adams County. Examples of the work done by our organizations are: stream restoration projects, water monitoring, stream cleanups and public education about our waterways and watersheds. The fire company benefits from this event as well so that they are able to continue protecting their community.

Please visit the Expo on March 1& 2. It is a great way to support three local organizations while stocking up on all your outdoor needs!
