Voluntary water/fire restrictions in place

(7/24) Carroll Valley Borough has declared a voluntary restriction on water use, while the Fairfield and Fayetteville fire companies have imposed a burn ban.

Southwest Adams County had moved from its former state of pre-drought, “abnormally dry” conditions to a declared drought.

Jed Fetter, Carroll Valley Borough Treatment plant operator, reported that in July (thus far), the plant recorded the average rainfall for the month to have been 2.62 inches, down from June's amount of 3.01 inches, Last July, the amount of rain received was 6.05 inches, an increase over last year's June amount of 3.61 inches.

Specifically, Carroll Valley Borough, in response to the drought conditions, stated, “is requesting all citizens to consider voluntary water-use restrictions. Please consider conserving water by avoiding lawn and garden watering, pool filling, washing cars … “

Hamiltonban does not have its own water treatment plant, and most residents in Liberty Township rely on private wells.

Fairfield Borough staff reported that the Fairfield Municipal Authority, which serves Fairfield and some properties located in Hamiltonban Township, “Has no concerns about the water supply at this time and is not considering imposing any restrictions.”

Regarding the burn ban declared for the area, Fairfield Fire and EMS and the Franklin County Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department, who provide some coverage in Hamiltonban Township, enacted a prohibition against any outdoor burning due to “these exceptional drought conditions.”
