Emmitsburg Ambulance Company Receives
 County Training Award

The Emmitsburg Ambulance Company announced it is the recipient of the 2002 Frederick County Fire Rescue Association (FCVFRA) Fire/Rescue Departmental Training Award.

Each year, the FCVFRA recognizes Fire, Rescue and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Departments and members within the county for various outstanding achievements.

According to the FCVFRA web site, the Fire/Rescue Training Award was established to recognize the accomplishments of a department in maintaining professionalism through participation in formal fire, rescue, emergency medical services, and hazardous materials training. It is based upon the average number of formal training hours per active member for fire and rescue training completed in the fiscal year prior to the award. This award is presented to the department which has the highest average number of formal training hours per active member."

"This is just another example of the commitment to excellence the volunteers here at the Emmitsburg Ambulance Company strive to maintain in our continued service to the citizens of the greater Emmitsburg community." said Chief Steven King.

President Joseph Pelkey agreed, stating: "We may not receive paychecks for what we do, but we are definitely professionals. We look at this award as representative of that fact, and thank the FCVFRA for it’s public recognition."

This is the second time the Emmitsburg Ambulance Company was recognized by the FCVFRA for it’s commitment to continuing education, receiving the first award in 2000.
