ARTIST STATEMENT
George M. Clark is a graduate of the New York School of Industrial Arts where upon graduation his portfolio won the Scribby Award for excellence in cartooning.  He also studied at the Newark School of Art and Design, after which he served as a Senior illustrator in the U.S. Army at Fort Bragg, NC.  An award winning artist and instructor, his work may be found in collections throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Great Britain.  

He won the Twenty-fifth Anniversary Silver Medal at the Pennsylvania Water Color Society Show in 2004, the National Watercolor Society Award for excellence in Watercolor at the Philadelphia Watercolor Show.  In 2005, he won three prizes in the Philadelphia Watercolor Show.  He's placed first in mixed media for three years at the Lititz Springs outdoor show and First place the first two years of the Landis Woods outdoor show.  In 2005, he won the Rottler Award at the York Art Association.  He also placed first in their collage show and has won numerous prizes at both the Lancaster and York Art Associations.  A 2005 Watercolor Magic Magazine featured him as one of ten artists in the United States to watch.  He has been published several times since then.  He will be included in Artist Magazine's March 2008 "Artist Over 60" feature.  In June 2006, he won the Gracie Award and Best of Show at the International Society of Experimental Artists. 

An active instructor, he teaches at the York and Lancaster Art Associations and Mechanicsburg Art Enter.  Local high schools have had him for workshops.  He also teaches workshops for the Main Street Art Guild in Hurricane, W.V., and Willow Valley Retirement Community.  He teaches six and eight week classes as well as weekend workshops in Watercolor, Collage, and Experimental Water Media.  Many of his students have gone on to win prizes and earn signature memberships in various societies.  Mr. Clark is a signature member of the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, the Baltimore Watercolor Society, and the Philadelphia Watercolor Society.  He is a candidate member of the International Society of Experimental Artists.
